RICHARD SIEDHOFF


The Metropolis Orchestra Berlin is honored and proud to welcome the great composer and pianist Richard Siedhoff as composer in residence.

Richard Siedhoff was born in 1987 in Weimar, Germany. He received his first piano lessons at the age of seven. After completing his secondary education Siedhoff worked as an editor before he studied musicology and cultural management at the University of Music Franz Liszt. Since 2008 Siedhoff has accompanied more than 200 silent films on the piano. Through his accompaniment he combines his own compositions and improvisations. Siedhoff is a regular guest at the Munich Film Museum, the International Silent Film Festival Bonn and has performed at the Zürich Silent Film Festival, the Danube Festival Krems, the Film Festival Braunschweig and the Korean Film Archive Seoul. He also regularly plays the cinema organ at the Grassi Museum Leipzig. In addition to performing in large theatres he also performs at small cultural institutions with 16mm film projectors. Siedhoff is the house pianist at the Lichthaus Kino Weimar, where he also curates the silent film program. Richard Siedhof also composes pieces for Chamber Ensembles and Orchestra    and is composer in residence of the Metropolis Orchestra Berlin.

Composition of an impressive music to Murnau's early masterpiece "Journey into the Night" for the Metropolis Orchestra Berlin (15 musicians).
